Did you know that Kosova loses more than 1 hectare of forest per day?

As part of its deforestation work, SLK has created a movement called #MoseMerrMalin with the aim to increase the awareness of the problem of deforestation and its long term impact on ecosystems, biodiversity and people’s livelihoods. Through their research, data science, and satellite imagery, SLK has visualized the deforestation problem in the region of Kosovo. In this interactive map you will be able to see a timelapse of forest loss of 7,618 Hectares over the last two decades – or the equivalent of 14,236 football stadiums. If we continue with the current trend by 2035 Kosovo will not have any healthy forests left.

SLK needs your help to continue with its #MoseMerrMalin movement, and to develop a specific workstation which will process the data collected through satellite images.

The workstation includes two equipments:

• 34 Curved Monitor – S3422DWG: 34” curved WQHD monitor with VESA Display HDR 400, a 144Hz refresh rate. Such a screen with the required size and specifications helps us to have a wider view during the analysis of damaged forest areas. This type of screen has the ability to be divided into two parts and gives us the opportunity in real time to compare data for certain years, for example 2020 with those of the current year. • XPS Desktop: 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12900 (30 MB cache, 16 cores, 20 threads, 2.40 GHz to 5.10 GHz Turbo. These specifications of processing of the data coming from satellites such as Landsat 8.9 and Sentinel 1.2, combined with the data coming from the Drone. All combined requires powerful processing and takes time to get results so we need to have a workstation with the ability to process this information. Price: 3,200 Euros

– Description: The IRCA has been working in Durres with the Multifunctional Community Center of Nishtulla, to empower and support 100 vulnerable Roma families through education, counseling, and employment. A total of 18 children (1 in every 8) in the daily kindergarten at the public elementary school in Nishtulla are malnourished and do not have basic educational and sanitary materials. This fundraiser helped to ensure that Roma children in Durres who lack food, school materials, and sanitary materials were provided with them, free of charge.

– Description: Sexual abuse is one of the most painful and frightening experiences that a child can endure. The consequences include mental health problems, poor academic performance, physical illnesses, poor social relationships, problems with self-esteem, and feelings of insecurity. In Albania, due to gender norms and cultural taboos, sexual abuse is an experience that occurs frequently but remains unreported. The stigmatization of victims of sexual abuse makes professionals, parents, and children hesitate to report it. Through this fundraiser, GAF and the YWCA seek to combat these problems. The project included: (i) Workshops with students, teachers, parents and psychosocial staff to discuss myths and facts related to child sexual abuse and harassment; (ii) Teaching prevention strategies and self defense skills to children and youth, (iii) Providing psychological support to victims of sexual violence; and (iv) Preparing reading materials for different age groups in parallel with an intensive online campaign to raise awareness.

Today, we launch our end-of-year fundraising campaign and we ask you to please support us on Giving Tuesday and throughout the month of December as we raise money for Youth, Exchange and Education Programs in Albania, Kosova, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Presheva.

All of your donations will exclusively support programs and projects managed by the Global Albanians Foundation and GERMIN, as part of the Global Albanians Youth Initiative.

– Engaging Professionals from Diaspora to the homeland to work together through internships, virtual professional conferences, and webinars in: health, information technology, soft skills, and career development;

– Youth Leadership to engage young professionals (age 21-35) to connect, share knowledge, and provide community solutions to some of the most pressing issues at the local level in homeland countries.

– Promoting youth entrepreneurs and their start-ups in homeland countries so that they can seek opportunities for investors from the business community in diaspora.

This end-of-year, our goal is to raise $25,000, so that together We Can:

– Place 5 Diaspora Experts in public institutions in Albania and Kosovo to contribute their skills and know how over a period of 6 months;

– Engage 5 Diaspora Fellows for a period of 1-3 months with Civil Society Organizations and local communities to provide community solutions through skill transfer and know how with over 150+ fellow peers;

– Organize a virtual Youth Entrepreneurs Conference to attract 100 potential investors for youth entrepreneurs and their start-up companies in Albania, Kosova, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Presheva

– Description: The Global Albanians Youth Network is a movement initiated by Germin and the Global Albanians Foundation with the purpose of promoting positive change in Albanian communities around the world, by identifying, connecting and engaging Albanian youth (ages 14-22) and youth organizations in both homeland countries (Albania, Kosova, Northern Macedonia, Montenegro, Presheva) and the diaspora. This has been done through seminars, workshops, and opinion polls aimed at youth and youth organizations focusing on language, cultural heritage, and professional development programs. These efforts connected both organizations and individuals, encouraged our youth to raise their voices, and helped to plant the seeds for OriginAL which is a joint program of the GAF and Germin to bring diaspora youth for a two week trip every summer beginning in 2022.
