– Description: Presheva is an Albanian majority region in Serbia, and is the most underdeveloped part of the country. Lacking integration and advancement, Presheva has high unemployment, and over 70% of its young people emigrate. A total of 33 students at the primary school “Migjeni” in Caravajka – Presheva have an even more difficult life – having to walk over an hour per day for school from the surrounding villages. Everyday, these students show their desire to acquire education and Vision for Development, the GAF, and our donors have supported them by providing school meals.

– Description: Code for Albania is a connecting bridge between the forefront of technology, Silicon Valley, and Albania. A unique partnership of a non-profit founded by the Albanian Technology Diaspora in California (AlphaPlan), and a non-profit from Stanford University, (Code.X) offers a 3-year Computer Science and Design Thinking program for high-school students in Albania. This program goes beyond promoting the technical side of programming, and delves into how to enable the youth to think about solving real needs in their communities. Code for Albania has 30 participants, maintains a student.teacher ratio of 3/1, and includes: (i) Two-week summer camp with instructors from Stanford University; (ii) Classes once a month during the school year with local instructors; and (iii) Information sessions with experts from the Albanian Diaspora in the field of technology and entrepreneurship

– Description: The Global Albanians Foundation supported Artpolis and the talented film industry in Kosova by facilitating a $30,000 donation from the Joseph Handleman “I Believe in You” Trust Foundation and an additional $4,000 personal donation from the United States. These donations supported the film “I’m Possible” about the inspiring story of Biba May from Prizren who has had muscular dystrophy since she was a child, but this has not stopped her from making a difference in this world and to achieve her dreams to make the world a better place.

– Description: The Global Albanians Foundation facilitated a personal donation of $5,000 from an individual donor in the United States to the University of Pristina Dental School. This donation was used to purchase six binocular magnifiers for the prosthetic dentistry department. The dental school has an enrollment of 70 students.

– Description: The Women’s Forum Elbasan (WFE) has been working for 30 years to protect the rights of survivors of domestic violence, and took up a new initiative to increase access to online education for the children of women who have survived violence and lack computers and internet access. With the support of the Global Albanians Foundation, Women’s Forum Elbasan: (i) Identified families and children from vulnerable groups who were most in need for online learning support;; (ii) Purchased and distributed 10 computers and internet service for 1 year for 15 families to enable access to online classes and educational programs for children; and (iii) Worked together with the families and children to ensure that the computers were properly used to maximize their educational benefit.

– Description: The YMCA Tirana, in collaboration with the high school “Shote Galica” and the municipality of Fushe-Kruja, developed an innovative project to engage the youth in the areas affected by the earthquake in Fushe-Kruje. Four youth volunteer groups were created to address different issues: (i) training in art and musical performance for children; (ii) identifying the need for different musical instruments at the school and purchasing them; (iii) identifying the needs of the school library, including new books and refurbishing the library; and (iv) helping two families in need with the reconstruction of their houses.
